A bizalom és függőség szerepe a családi gazdaságok együttműködésében végzett gépi munkákban AgEcon
Takacs, Istvan; Baranyai, Zsolt.

In the Hungarian agriculture private farms have a determining role. Since Hungary has became a European Union member country, in certain markets the performance and efficiency of these private farms are directly matched with the agronomics of other member countries. Considering this competitive situation when assessing private economies that are traditionally agricultural, based on a survey with personal interview and questionnaire the research focused on what characterizes the production structure of farms, which parameters describe equipment supply, as even so how the efficiency of soil, technical equipment and capital, which are the relevant resources of the agricultural production. Willingness of cooperation was also researched, focused on not only...

Economic expansion revaluates continuously the economic and social role of agriculture. Population explosion in the world generates continuously growing demand on foods and industrial raw materials. Supply of increased demand is supported by R&D, at the same time using results of it polarizes the economies. In the agriculture the technical development (i.e. development of technical, technological and biological basis of production, chemicalization, education of human resources) produces potential for increasing efficiency of production. The first period of technical development serves characteristically the supply of quantitative demand, but after it reached the equilibrium of supply and demand, then qualitative development becomes aim. Development...

Over fifteen years have elapsed since the transition from the centrally planned economic system started in the early 1990’s. During this time agricultural and rural areas of Central and Eastern Europe have undergone profound structural changes with wide variations in the degree of transformation and in the rate of success in creating a competitive market and private ownership based food and agricultural system. By becoming member of the European Union the "transition" in its traditional interpretation has been concluded in ten of the Central East European countries. The transition to market based agriculture, however, is far from completion in Southern and Eastern Europe and especially in the CIS countries. International Association of Agricultural...

AZ AGRÁRGAZDASÁG FENNTARTHATÓSÁGÁNAK MIKRO- ÉS MAKROGAZDASÁGI DILEMMÁI AgEcon
Takacs-Gyorgy, Katalin; Takacs, Emese; Takacs, Istvan.
Sustainable development and environmental consciousness is getting more important. It is a requirement of human activity – i.e. agriculture – to use less artificial chemicals, to decrease environmental burden and to ensure the adequate food supply, by fitting the basic economic criteria. Those farming alternatives are shown in the paper that are based on different chemical use in plant production. It is investigated how the profitability will change when we make changes in former farming activity, and what should be changed to reach income turning to organic faming or precision farming. In developing countries the main question is to produce the essential food demand, but it is necessary to examine the existence of fundamental important factors, the costs...

Challenges and Opportunities for Agriculture of Central Europe According to Farm Structure and Abounding with Capital AgEcon
Takacs, Istvan; Bojar, Waldemar.
Hungary and Poland are two applicant countries, which know the date of the admission into European Union, but the problems of the agriculture are great in both of them. The ways to the recent conditions were different, but the economic situation is similar. In Poland, mainly on the Eastern part of the country, there is a huge number of traditionally small farms operating under the economic size limit, and which are usually have not got adequate farming implements to up-to-date technologies, and their effectiveness is low. At the same time on the Western part of Poland there are Prussian type, better-mechanized, more effective large scale farms. In Hungary as a result of the economic transition the earlier large scale farms were privatised and great number...

Change of asset efficiency in EU agriculture: challenges for new members AgEcon
Takacs, Istvan.
Efficiency of farm assets is a very important factor of competitive production. It is in strong correlation with profitability of economic activities. One of the most important factor of the farm assets is the fixed assets, especially machinery. As it could be observed during the 1980s and 1990s on the farms of developed countries, the technical development was a considerable factor of farming. During that period the technical supply of farms increased significantly, at the same time the farm labour decreased, so the labour productivity rose considerably. This paper, based on the data of FADN, focuses on the investigation of some figures of the European Union for asset and labour efficiency between 1989 and 2005, and analyses what happened after 2004 when...

Changes in cereal land use and production level in the European Union during the period 1999-2009, focusing on New Member States AgEcon
Takacs-Gyorgy, Katalin; Takacs, Istvan.
The decrease in the area of arable land has further continued in the European Union (EU) since the Millennium. Sustainable development is partially based on the sustainable use of natural resources, which is based on the limitation of land use and on the introduction of different incentives. Previous direct subsidies resulted in increased production. The reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has aimed to stop the increase in production, possibly even to decrease production. The objective of this research is to show whether such an effect on land use and on the change of production structure in the EU can be observed. Analyses have shown that agricultural and arable areas have further decreased within land use since the Millennium, continuing the...

Factors of Efficiency Change of Assets on the EU-15 and Hungarian Farms from 1990s AgEcon
Takacs, Istvan; Baranyai, Zsolt; Takacs, Emese.
Efficiency of farm assets is a very important factor of competitive production. It could be in strong correlation with profitability of economic activities. One of the most important factor of the farm assets is the fixed assets, and as a part of it, the equipment as well. An important factor of the farm asset value is the machinery, which depends on the amount of internal resources of farms and external financial resources i.e. governmental subsidies, bank loans. But, as it could be observed during the 1980s and 1990s on the farms of developed countries, the technical development was also a considerable factor of farming. This paper, based on the data of the FADN, and yearbooks of the HCSO, focuses on the investigation of some figures of the European...

The 1990’s have brought fundamentally changes in the political, social and economic sphere of the Central and Eastern European countries. The transition process set deep changes off on several areas of economy, so agriculture too. Based on statistical data of Hungary (HCSO) and Russia (GKS) the paper shows the changes of agricultural structure in both counties during the transition, analyses that which tendencies affected during the fifteen years after the transition. The examination deals with the main aspects of the efficiency issues, parallel with structural changes.

Modeling of the Connection Between the Ecological Farming and Farm Sizes under Hungarian Conditions AgEcon
Takacs, Istvan; Takacs-Gyorgy, Katalin.
Nowadays, the spread of ecological farming occurs in an ever-accelerating rate in Europe. In the beginning of the 1990s, this process started in Hungary too. Primarily, horticultural bioproduct have appeared on the market; however, farms, which can be regarded as a sample, formed out relatively fast, and made products qualified as plough-land bulk goods, first of all for export, but a stratum in Hungary also starts to interest for these products. In our research, we looked for an answer to the question, how the economic condition system of ecological production forms out in Hungarian circumstances, on which farm sizes farming can be made profitably. We started by adapting the earlier model researches that current farm sizes in Hungary, are too small yet,...

Role of Foreign Direct Investment in Restructuring of Agribusiness in the CEE Countries Following the Transition AgEcon
Takacs, Istvan; Liebmann, Lajos.
The foreign direct investment (FDI) is a form of the capital flow having several century traditions. In the privatization as well as modernization of economies following the economic and political transition of the countries in the Central and Eastern Europe at the 1990s the role of the foreign direct investment was significant. According to the research, besides to the general positive effects of the FDI (production culture, market demand orientated product and technology innovation, supplier nets of SMEs, diffused know-how, quality demands, etc.) also led to economic dependency as well as market structure deformations (see oil industry, sugar industry, retail chains). The point of view of sectors the foreign direct investment has flowed insignificantly...

The Importance and Role of Trust in Agricultural Co-operation – Some Empirical Experiences from Hungary AgEcon
Szabo, Gabor G.; Baranyai, Zsolt; Takacs, Istvan.
This paper examines the relations of trust in agricultural cooperation from two aspects. On the one hand, it gives a short review of relevant literature, with special regard to agri-food economy. On the other hand, it uses the results of empirical survey for the analysis of trust in machinery sharing arrangements of Hungarian agricultural producers. In connection with this, the trust is examined in two dimensions: contractual and competence trust. Our results prove that there is a positive correlation between the level of trust and the farmers’ activity in cooperative agreements. It could also be proved that the trust need is very different in the different fields of cooperation. It is a tendency that the contractual trust is more important in more...
